Governance
The Governance structure of Project UK is based on the collaborative nature of the project and the overlap of stakeholders that participate in more than one FIP.
The FIPs run for a pre-determined timeline based on the draft Action Plan and benchmarking and tracking tool, generally up to a maximum of five years. This timeline begins with a formal agreement of the Action Plan by the relevant Steering Group.
Secretariat
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is the secretariat and facilitator of Project UK. The MSC involvement in Project UK is part of its ‘Pathway to Sustainability’ initiative, which aims to support fisheries on their journey towards sustainability.
Observers
Organisations that attend Steering Group meetings but do not necessarily contribute to the delivery of actions through in-kind or financial support. Examples of regular observers include Devolved Administrations or statutory bodies who, due to national regulations around neutrality, are unable to join as full members, but support the progress of the FIP where possible. External observers may join meetings, when agreed in writing beforehand, as outlined in the Terms of Reference.
Terms of Reference
Project UK Steering Groups follow Terms of Reference that define and guide participants on their roles and responsibilities. The Terms of Reference outline these expectations and processes and can be found here for Round 1 FIPs and
Round 2 FIPs.
